The Stars of Los Angeles

by Chavi

I saw three airplanes
Over the night freeway
The stars of Los Angeles
Not tread upon by hungry visitors
At Hollywood & Highland
But twinkling like modern angels

Over the many-eyed traffic
That so many fear
And I secretly treasure
Because I am a part of something
Just a number
One O One
Four O Five

Until I crashed into the concrete wall
Of the on ramp
The cars sped past
They couldn’t see me
And Venus shone stubbornly
Over me through the purple murk
